Portfolio Company Leadership Spotlight: Joseph Janson at NVTS

Meet Joe Janson, the extraordinary CEO and veteran leader at NVTS Night Vision Technology Solutions Inc., a Veteran Ventures Portfolio Company. Joe and his team's commitment to defense innovation, focusing on thermal driver vision systems and gyro-stabilized cameras for land and maritime defense applications, has earned them the prestigious title of New England Exporter of the Year and recipient of Providence Business Journal's Technology Innovation Award. Joe has also taken on the role of a board member for the U.S. Commerce Department's Rhode Island District Export Council, where his expertise and insights have helped to shape policy decisions and boosted the region's exports.

Joe's journey to success extends beyond his entrepreneurial achievements. He proudly carries the title of a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, with a distinguished record of service aboard an Icebreaker during Operation Deep Freeze Antarctica and Arctic Polar operations. During his tenure at Coast Guard Station Castle Hill in Newport, RI, Joe participated in countless search and rescue missions, demonstrating extraordinary bravery and selflessness.

Before founding NVTS, Joe founded a successful marine electronics manufacturer's rep company, serving both the U.S. and Canadian markets. His relentless pursuit of developing cutting-edge products has always been underpinned by one principle - collaboration.

“Don’t fall in love with your own ideas…listen to your customers." - Joe Janson.

The genesis of NVTS in 2010 was driven by a compelling need to support a critical U.S. Navy requirement. Since then, NVTS has been on an upward trajectory, continuously expanding its product offerings to cater to various defense applications. From gyro-stabilized camera systems for autonomous Navy vessels like the Sea Hunter and Sea Hawk to complete Driver Vision Systems for a range of Army vehicles, including the JLTV, M-88, Stryker, MRAP, and Abrams Tank, NVTS has consistently proven itself as an industry leader in advanced defense technologies.

Notably, NVTS proudly carries the distinction of being a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business.

Under Joe Janson's leadership, NVTS has become a pioneering force, shaping the future of thermal driver vision systems and gyro-stabilized cameras. Joe's remarkable journey from a dedicated Coast Guard veteran to a visionary entrepreneur is an inspiration, demonstrating that with dedication, innovation, and a genuine passion for serving others, one can achieve great things and leave an indelible mark on the defense industry and our soldiers.
