Frequently asked questions.
Who is Veteran Ventures?
Veteran Ventures Capital (VVC) is a veteran-owned venture capital firm that invests in veteran-led and national security focused businesses, with an emphasis on dual-use technology, defense innovation, and mission-critical solutions.
FOR FOUNDERS
How do you define veteran-owned/led businesses?
The answer is "broadly." We work with entrepreneurs who have served in our nation’s military and undergone leadership development, educational/technical training, and intense, character-building scenarios to have an "adapt and overcome mentality.” These are the characteristics that help drive businesses with incredible tenacity and great exits.
That means being on a Board is not enough. Our veteran entrepreneurs/leadership direct both strategic and tactical decisions. They are typically owners in some capacity.
FOR INVESTORS
Who can invest in Veteran Ventures Capital?
Our funds are open to accredited investors, family offices, institutional investors, and corporate partners interested in supporting national security innovation & patriotic capital.
How does VVC select its investments?
We conduct rigorous due diligence, evaluating companies based on team experience, technology defensibility, market opportunity, government and commercial traction, and financial scalability.
What is the relationship between VVC and DoD/government agencies?
Veteran Ventures Capital maintains strong working relationships across the Department of Defense and federal innovation ecosystem, including organizations such as AFWERX, DIU, DARPA, and other DoD innovation and transition offices. Through these relationships, we support portfolio companies in pursuing non-dilutive capital, government contracts, and scalable dual-use commercialization pathways.
In addition, our team has deep familiarity with DoD acquisition processes and ongoing acquisition reform efforts. We leverage this experience to help portfolio companies navigate the complexity of Pentagon procurement, accelerate transition opportunities, and engage government customers more effectively.
How can corporations or institutions partner with VVC?
We collaborate with corporate and institutional partners on co-investment opportunities, innovation scouting, and industry engagement initiatives. Reach out to discuss partnership opportunities.

What stage businesses do you invest in and what is the typical investment size?
We invest in the most promising US-based, veteran-affiliated, post-revenue (minimum of $1M ARR, often much higher, , Seed/Series A/Series B), dual-use technology companies — mainly focused on National Security/Defense Sectors. Detailed investment focus areas are found here. Investment size varies, but we average $2M-$3M in the first round and reserve capital for follow-on rounds.
Besides funding, what other support does VVC provide?
We offer mentorship, strategic introductions, government contracting expertise, regulatory navigation, and connections to military and defense networks to accelerate growth. We are very “hands-on” investors, and our #1 value-add lay in our ability to access non-dilutive government funding programs.
How do I pitch my company to VVC?
Veteran Ventures Capital is a thesis-driven fund, and we work most effectively with founders whose companies clearly align with our investment focus.
Rather than accepting open, cold applications, we typically engage with companies through trusted referrals, direct outreach, and existing relationships within the veteran, national security, and defense innovation ecosystems. This approach allows us to spend more time on high-quality opportunities that are a strong strategic fit for our platform.
If you believe your company aligns with our investment thesis, we encourage you to review our focus areas carefully and seek an introduction through a mutual connection, ecosystem partner, portfolio company, or advisor familiar with our work. We also proactively seek out companies that match our criteria.
Another option is to email us at dealflow@veteranventures.us. Due to volume, we are unable to respond to every inquiry when the opportunity is not deemed a fit by the dealflow committee. When there is a strong fit, we will gladly engage and bring the opportunity into our internal review process.
